Hummingbird High Reader Survey 2019

The best part?! Filling out the survey will qualify you for the chance to win a KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer in one of my favorite colors, Blue Steel!!! See the full rules for the raffle after the jump below.

A few weeks ago, when I was pulling numbers for my annual year in review and sharing last year’s most beloved recipes on Instagram Stories, I capped off the slideshow of cookies and cakes with a simple question:

What kinds of recipes do you want to see on Hummingbird High in 2019?

My seemingly innocent and small question elicited some eye-opening responses from you guys. Although there were a handful of folks who called for more elaborate recipes like sourdough breads, homemade puff pastries, and entremet cakes, many of you commented that my recipes had gotten too complicated and focused on obscure ingredients or time-consuming steps. Oops.

If I’m being honest though, I shoulda seen it coming. My cookbook, Weeknight Baking, is out this fall and is filled with all my favorite simple recipes — but because I was saving all my favorite basic recipes like brownies and chocolate chip cookies for the book, I’d doubled down on more complicated and elaborate ones to showcase on Hummingbird High. I definitely alienated some of you in the process, and my blog suffered for it. I saw stagnating (and sometimes even declining) numbers on many Hummingbird High platforms, with engagement and comments being at an all-time low on the blog itself (though this might just be the current state of things now, given Design Sponge’s announcement that they’re shutting down, sigh).

Though I’m not going to deny that those numbers and analytics are important to the business side of the blog (Hummingbird High is what pays my mortgage after all), I also want to stress how much it breaks my heart that you guys aren’t baking from Hummingbird High anymore. One of the reasons why I started this blog was because I wanted to bake desserts and sweets and share them with y’all so you could bake them too without worrying about whether or not the recipe will work. And I want that to happen again this year — with both my upcoming book AND through this blog.

Which leads me to this: I’m conducting a reader’s survey to hear all about what YOU want from me and my blog, Hummingbird High. The survey is short (only 10 required questions) and mostly asks about what kinds of recipes and content you want to see here so I can get you guys baking—or maybe even cooking!—from Hummingbird High again. Use the link below to take it now:

Hummingbird High Reader Survey 2019

And because I know your time is precious, I want to offer something that I hope you’ll find as valuable as I find the answers you’ll be sharing with me: one survey responder will win a KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer in one of my favorite colors, Blue Steel (retail value: $499.99). For a chance to win the mixer, all you need to do is complete the survey once — doing so will gain you an entry in the raffle. However, only fully completed surveys will qualify for a raffle entry and not partial ones, so be sure to answer ALL the required questions meaningfully for a legitimate entry. Multiple survey completions will be disqualified from the raffle completely. After the survey is closed on 1/26/2019 at 8:00AM PST, a winner will be randomly selected and notified by email. I’m also asking what country you live in/will need the KitchenAid mixer shipped to just to make sure that I can get the right voltage and plug needed for your country — because yes, non-US residents are eligible for the prize as well! And of course, I promise I will never use your email address or geographical information to subscribe you to anything without your explicit permission.

Looking forward to hearing from y’all!!!
