Hey guys!
I'm starting a new column for the blog full of the links I read and enjoyed during the week. It's kind of an awkward time to start it, since I'll be heading to New York City next week for the Saveur Food Blog Awards ceremony (!!!) and probably won't get around to it next weekend, but what the heck, right?
Enjoy the weekend!
... if you're going to San Francisco ...
- Be sure to bring a giant paycheck, 'cuz median rent in the city is now $4,225. Gross.
- Two words: S'MORES CRUFFIN. Who wants to join me on my mecca to Mr Holmes Bakehouse soon???
... this is how we do it …
- Alice Medrich, my baking hero, taught me some new tricks I didn’t know (even despite the years of baking under my belt!) on preparing cake pans for success.
- I always wondered where to buy these beautiful knotted ring trivets, but it turns out you can easily do it yourself at home.
... and you, you can read me anything …
- Except maybe The Saddest Cookbooks Ever.
... our house is a very, very, very fine house …
- Before I turned my life upside down and moved to San Francisco, I had planned to replace the front door of my Portland house #casahummingbirdhigh with a yellow statement door — but maybe black is a better color...
... every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top ...
- I hate-read the New York Times' Fashion & Style section for oddly tone-deaf and hyperprivileged articles... like this one that outlines ridiculous regimens on how to get your arms ready for the summer. I'm with Hamilton — just do some push-ups, bro.
... surf it, scroll it, pause it, click it …
- Ride sharing apps like Uber and Lyft are a new-to-me service, but, at the end of the day, maybe they’re just another popularity contest?
- When I look at my blog analytics, I sometimes see weird bots and crawlers referring traffic to my site. I thought it was harmless, but it turns out I was wrong.
... how they love the sporting life ...
- The FIFA World Cup is the only sporting event I actually like and pay attention to, but the death toll stats for the upcoming Quatar World Cup is horrifying and heartbreaking.
... you had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself go by …
- Why you never see any selfies in my Instagram feed. Or hardly any photos of me at all. This is the closest you’ll get.
... cash rules everything around me …
- I love to daydream about quitting my dayjob and starting my own bakery. What’s stopping me? Money, money, money.
... yeah, living the raw deal – three-course meal! ...

My friend bought me some Tim Tams, and I left them at home so I wouldn't devour them alone when I got back to school after break. Less than three weeks later, the package I reiterated wasn't to be opened until I got back home had 2 left. And they didn't even try it with hot milk! Even my friend's mom was a bit annoyed.
ReplyDeleteOH NOOOO. That is the saddest story :-( I would have been so mad!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this! And am so glad to have Sini's beautiful blog back. Her photos are always such an inspiration! <3
ReplyDeleteOh my god that s'mores cruffin! I've been making a list of all the bakeries I am going to visit next week and this is totally on my list now!!
ReplyDeleteHave so much fun in New York at the blog awards! You totally deserve it.
Awww Michelle, I love this but it makes me miss you in PDX :( Okay, okay I'm over my sap fest and onto thinkng those houses in the top photo are adorbs. Also, I'm all over that link-y menu you've got up top...for reals, two of my favorite recipe posts this week! See you soon, darlin...let me know if you need me to bring you anything from PDX! ;) xx
ReplyDeleteI love post like these, but yet I never get the time to write them..UGH! Anyway, this was awesome. Loved all the links! Have in New York! Wish I was coming!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Abby! I'm glad Sini's back too; I can't believe that her content was plagiarized though. People are the worst.
ReplyDeleteYES! I haven't made it out to Mr. Holmes yet; I hear the lines are crazy, so go early. And report back!!!
ReplyDeleteAw, that's so sweet of you to offer!!! I can't think of anything at the top of my head though. I'm excited to hang out in NYC! Can't wait to hear about your trip to Alaska, and catch up on PDX gossip IRL!
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad you liked it — I wasn't sure if people were going to even read or click on anything. And I feel ya about the not having time thing. We'll see how it goes!
ReplyDeleteThe houses and too cute! So happy Sini is back - such happy news! Hope you had an awesome week!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I had not heard of Mr. Holmes before so I'll have to try for a cruffin sometime soon. I'm guessing the key, like everything in SF, is show up at opening time to avoid the line. Looks like this is next weekend's project.
ReplyDeleteMr. Holmes is in the TL! 0.0 But I'm down if you are.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link love <3
ReplyDeleteThat door pic is just phenomenal. And Tim Tam cookie love here as well; fell in love with them while I was traveling in Australia a couple of years ago. Dip them in coffee and drink coffee through the Tim Tam...yeah, that's how we do it.
Thanks, ladies <3 Yeah, that mirroring thing is so nasty and it's affecting many other bloggers and website owners as well :(
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Millie!
ReplyDeleteYou are very talented as a baker. Have you ever considered partnering up with someone in order to make your dream true of opening the bakery ? I wonder if crowdfunding would work as well? hmm.
ReplyDeleteReport back and let me know how it is :-)
ReplyDeleteThe TL is apparently hip and happening these days! We'll be okay ;-)
ReplyDeleteYUM. That sounds amazing. I should really try and find some over here!
ReplyDeleteI have thought about it! The key would be finding a partner who's worked in commercial food/baking before, because I have zero experience.
ReplyDeleteLove this new column! So many things: jealous of all the Mr. Holmes you'll have, YES to that black door and hello Tim Tam Pav. Love that little menu you've compiled. I pretty much love everything about this!
ReplyDeleteLove this new column!!! Have the best time in NYC xoxo
ReplyDeleteLove all of these links! Excited for this series!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog via a comment on sfgirlbybay, absolutely love it! Would love to connect :) I'm currently working on launching my own SF-related blog at takemetosf.com

ReplyDeleteYay I love this new weekly post! It's one of my favorites to cultivate on my blog too. Great stuff here, lady. Cannot wait to see you tomorrow! Ah!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I'm so excited for this new column!! Especially those pithy lyric-captions. And EEP, you made my day with the link love!! THANK YOU!!!
