Fall is here, which I’m really excited about. The fall harvest brings fruits and vegetables that are perfect for rustic fruit desserts… like this apple crisp. What’s a crisp? Think: a layer of sugary, toasty crumbs with the flavor of a snickerdoodle cookie, followed by a layer of cinnamon-tossed baked apples. And when topped with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream? Heaven. It’s the perfect dessert to welcome fall and celebrate the harvest.

Those are the pink pearl apples that I used in the recipe. And yes, they really are light green on the outside, with a beautiful pale pink on the inside! When eaten fresh, they are slightly too tart and mushy, but they bake wonderfully in the crisp:
